In 1997/1998, this design for a new Montreal ballpark known as Labatt Park was promoted by the Expos. Plans called for a 35,000 seat stadium with a retractable roof, natural grass, and a view of the Montreal skyline. The park would have been located on the block bounded by rues St. Jacques, Peel, Notre-Dame, and de la Montagne. The plan ran into trouble when the city of Montreal refused to provide any funding. It was dropped entirely when the new Loria ownership group took over the Expos in 1999.
