In 1999, new Marlins owner John Henry was looking at many different sites for a new ballpark. This concept was designed by MATEU Architecture Inc. for a site bounded by SW 2nd Avenue, Metrorail tracks, the Miami River, and an I-95 off ramp. The design included a “parasol”
roof which shaded the seating areas. Although the plan/site was strongly considered, the Marlins selected the Bicentennial Park site instead.
