By 1994, Seattle and the Mariners realized the need for replacement or renovation of the Kingdome. A 1995 study determined that Kingdome renovation wasn’t cost effective, so a new outdoor/retractable roof park was needed. Initial 1995 designs called for a ballpark in the parking lot to the north of the Kingdome (first two images below). After months of financing issues, the sides agreed to instead use the site south of the dome instead. The final three images are of alternate orientations of the final ballpark at sites both north and south of the Kingdome.
